Morel Mushroom Sightings – Maps

adsense

The morel sighting maps are a great way to help each other out a little. Morel hunters often refer to the maps as the morel progression maps, and they have always been a favorite. The Great Morel is often asked “Is it time yet?” or “Are there morel sightings in my neck of the woods?” The maps are a great resource on when one might begin their foraging adventure.
If you would like to submit a sighting, the guidelines are pretty simple fill in the form with a Zip Code, a City, and State, along with and date found. If you want to add any additional information such as county, weather or soil conditions, or an image that is fine (two-image limit). Sightings will be posted periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season.

2024 Morel Sightings Map

The 2024 Morel season is on!  The first official Southeast report came in from Georgia in late February and the reports have been strong. The spring migration of the morel has been early, early, early – a common phrase from morel hunters reporting to the map. That being said, the morel season is upon us!
Click here for the 2024 Photo Gallery and while you are here, maybe visit The Morel Store where everything is on sale! Spend a little time on The Great Morel, and don’t forget to read some of the great articles too.
Note: the sighting reports are updated periodically throughout the day during the prime morel season. Markers are dropped on the map by Zip and or Town name, not actual GPS coordinates.
There are plenty of features on the interactive map – double click on images to open full size,  zoom, filter by month, full screen and more. Below the map you can find a table listing of the 40 most recent sightings along with images and notes if they were sent – there is a “more pages” button at the bottom of this table. If you have issues not seeing the latest sightings markers, try un-checking a month in the bottom left corner of the map and then rechecking the box next to the month. It should refresh correctly.

Morels in Cle Elum - Spotted the first ones after a rain that followed the spotting of false morels a few days before.
After the next rain we spotted many more. Mostly spotted on the sides of our trails and roads on our private land near evergreen trees. Have maybe found 8lbs. Spotted some in some leaf molt.

First find of the year! - Found one freshie at the first tree I checked (within 5 minutes of leaving my car)! Subsequently stumped for the next 2 hours at what I had hoped would be prime spots. Not quite there yet into the season. Found at the bottom of a draw with southeast exposure.

2nd score at my spot - 4/28/24 Found 20 or so more morels at my spot in the sycamores/ash most of then were over ripe so I spread them all over the area.one of them being quite possibly the biggest morel I've ever found! It was still under some of the leaves and had not even fully popped ip yet and it was almost the sizeof my head. The other fresh ones i found a few hundred yards away in a small shaded valley. One was 5 feet off the side of the path with the sunlight showcasing it right in front of my eyes. The other was at the base of a medium large poplar in mostly shade. Also found an itty bitty gray that just popped up right when I was in the thick of some brush and just told myself "alright its gnarly in here just gotta survive this point, probs no morels here anyway"
